"Political Economy' of the Body" Freewrite

(Quote 1)
This is an interesting quote because it is totally relevant with many things that we have learned in the past and are learning now. This directly relates to slavery. I believe this is connected because the owners of these slaves have the slaves work their bodies till their death or really close. Even though the slaves are tortured and forced to carry out tasks, they are not "allowed" to show signs of weakness or exhaustion. The way I perceive it is that the slave owners want the slaves to act like robots. They want them to continuously work and work and work, but then not show any emotions during or after the work. How can someone expect people to work like this with no comment or anything? I don't get it, but then again, I am growing up in an entirely different culture than back then.

(Quote 2)
This quote is stressing the importance of making sure you have sufficient amounts of work for your slaves or servants to complete. It seems like the quote is saying that if there is 5 slaves, but only enough work for 2 slaves, then no one is going to really work hard. Basically, that kind of worth ethic makes the slaves/servants worthless because they will learn to be lazy like that. So it is the owners job to make sure the slaves are in line. Also, if there is a lot more work to do, the slaves will do the work with better quality and speed because they will be under pressure. That is the kind of work ethic that will make slaves useful. Another point is that the slaves need to be in good physical condition to do the task or job with as much quality as they can. That is the slave owners job, to make sure that slaves are physically healthy enough to do all the work that they are required two. This are two things that are very important when it comes to manual labor, whether it be slaves or servants.
