Today in class all of the students were asked what our writing philosophies are. To some students, it was apparent that this may have been a very simple question as they had already shot their hands in the air to share their philosophy with the class. But to me, this is a very difficult question to answer. I have never really been someone who writes a lot outside of school. I have one journal that I write in occasionally, maybe five times in all. So it is safe to say that I really don't write a lot on my own about my passions and what not. This makes "finding" my writing philosophy very difficult in the way that I have not ever really thought about it. It has never even crossed my mind.
If I were to come up with a philosophy right now, I would have to say that it would be something along the lines that the writing should be filled with heart. Writing needs passion otherwise it is dull, not even worth reading in my opinion. All of my years in school I have abided by my TEACHERS philosophy of writing. I never really thought about my OWN philosophy. I only completed the assignment in a way that the teacher would be please with it because it followed their belief of how writing should be. In a nut shell, I believe that writing should be passionate and unique. Not boring and common, it needs to stand out and make people think. Another thing I believe is important about writing is that the writer leaves room in the writing for the readers to perceive and relate to the writing as much as possible. That gives meaning to both the reader and writer. That is my current philosophy, although it is definitely subject to change as the year progresses.
